The Elegance of a French Press

French Press is known for its ability to brew a consistent, full-bodied cup of coffee with rich texture and depth.

What you’ll need:

  • French Press
  • 20g ground coffee (approx. 3 tablespoons)
  • 240ml water (just under 1 cup) at ~94°C (1–2 minutes off the boil)
  • Tablespoon
  • Cup
  • Kettle
  • Scales (optional, for accuracy)

Brewing method:

  • Add 20g of ground coffee into your French Press.
  • Pour 40ml of hot water to bloom the coffee, then gently stir 8–10 times to fully saturate the grounds. Let it rest for 30 seconds.
  • Pour in the remaining water and place the lid on top without plunging.
  • Allow the coffee to steep for 3 minutes.
  • Gently stir once more to help the grounds settle at the bottom.
  • Slowly press the plunger down over 45–60 seconds.
  • Serve immediately to avoid over-extraction and preserve a clean, balanced flavor.

Pro tips:

  • Darker roasts benefit from slightly cooler water to prevent bitterness and over-extraction.
  • Lighter roasts require hotter water to properly extract their more complex flavors.
  • Always plunge slowly — rushing can result in a gritty, uneven cup.
  • For light to medium roasts, a gentle stir before plunging can reduce sourness.
  • Avoid stirring dark roasts before plunging, as it can enhance overly bitter notes.

FRENCH PRESS

The French Press is the ultimate choice for those who love a bold, full-bodied cup of coffee. Unlike paper filters that trap essential oils, the French Press uses a metal mesh filter, allowing every rich note and natural aroma to flow directly into your cup.

It’s a slow, intentional brewing process that rewards patience with a deep, textured flavor profile. Whether you’re starting your morning or enjoying a quiet afternoon, the French Press transforms simple coffee grounds into a sophisticated experience that’s both smooth and incredibly satisfying.
